FINDABYTE

DATA / LOCAL / CONTROL

Privacy policy

Updated 27 October 2026

Findabyte is a Mac app for locating and collecting the assets in edit and animation projects, published by Machine Moving Image Creative Ltd. It works locally and does not send anything about your projects or files to us.

What the app reads

When you add a project, Findabyte reads the project file. It reads the names, full paths, sizes and locations of the media the project refers to, and the contents of folders it checks for image sequences and project structure. It opens media files themselves only for Quick Look or when you choose Collect.

What it writes, only when you ask

When you collect, Findabyte writes the collected copies, a COLLECTION_REPORT.csv listing each file’s source and destination paths, and an optional copy of the project file, all at the destination you choose. Session files (.findabyte) and CSV exports are saved wherever you choose. Findabyte never edits your original project.

Session files

A session file contains the scan results with full paths, plus bookmarks to the project and main folder so it can be reopened. Treat it like any file containing paths when you share it.

What stays in the app’s container

The list of drives and folders you have allowed Findabyte to read, stored as macOS security-scoped bookmarks in ~/Library/Containers/com.wearemachine.findabyte/Data/Library/Application Support/disk-access.json. Nothing else is stored by the app.

No data collection or tracking

Findabyte has no accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking, third-party SDKs or network access. Nothing about your projects or files is sent to us, and the app does not use data to identify you. Apple may separately process purchase, App Store or operating-system diagnostics information under its own privacy policy and your settings.

Your controls and removing local data

You choose which drives and folders Findabyte may read. Remove a grant with the × next to it in the sidebar’s DISK ACCESS list, or remove them all by quitting Findabyte and deleting disk-access.json from the folder above. You control collected copies, reports, session files and CSV exports, and can delete them in Finder. We cannot access or delete anything on your Mac.

Support

If you email us, we receive the address and information you choose to send. We use it to answer your request and investigate the issue. Remove private paths and client names from screenshots, reports or session files before sending them. We retain support correspondence while needed to resolve your request and maintain the support record, and delete it when no longer needed, subject to any applicable legal retention requirement. You can ask us to delete your support correspondence by emailing info@wearemachine.co.uk.
